Q&A with Makeup Artist, Alyzé Nieves

By Bridney C.

"It was my first time practicing colored shadows in my live video," says Alyzé reflecting on her first ever makeup look.

It is a pleasure to interview Alyzé Nieves for the Sweet Scoop.

Alyzé is a 21-year-old makeup artist from Southbridge, Massachusetts. Currently residing in Connecticut, Alyzé is the first in her family to pursue a career in the beauty and wellness industry.

"For the most part, the women in my family have never really been the type to wear makeup," says Alyze. Her flashy, colorful makeup looks can be viewed on Instagram, where she promotes her looks.

In this edition of Q&A, Alyzé Nieves revealed what inspired her to pursue a career as a makeup artist, which makeup product she can't work without, and shared beauty advice for women.

Bridney C: Who are some people that have inspired your makeup career? Have you always been passionate about being a makeup artist?

Alyzé Nieves: Honestly, I never really started to get into makeup until I was sixteen. My mom and dad had a rule which was no makeup until you're in high school. My parents were concerned that if I was to start wearing makeup at a young age I would damage my skin. When I was finally old enough to “play” with makeup, my inspiration came from my peers. I used to see the upperclassmen wearing makeup and they always looked pretty. It inspired me to do what they were doing and add my own twist to their makeup looks.

BC: How do you keep up to date on the latest beauty trends?

AN: I try to keep up with the latest trends through my social media accounts. I am always scrolling through Instagram or watching YouTubers come up with challenges and trying to re-create them on my live videos the best I can.

BC: What is the one product you can't work without?

AN: My Morphe Micro Brow Pencil in the Java shade. I cannot live without it. I have always used Pomade for my brows, but ever since I started using the Morphe Brow Pencil, I do not use any other product for my eyebrows.

BC: Explain your recent and popular Black Lives Matter makeup look. Are you offering to do makeup for anyone who will be a part of the local protests?

AN: My recent Black Lives Matter makeup look was inspired by @_simply.deja_ after she created a makeup design that was trending on Instagram. The BLM movement is extremely important to me because I have a lot of friends and some family members who are a part of the African-American community. And yes, I have offered to help my loved ones who plan on attending the local protests and anyone else who would like me to do create a BLM inspired look. I will gladly help if I am available.

BC: What is your favorite makeup look you have done on a client?

AN: I currently do not accept clients and don’t plan on it for a while. I’m still trying to perfect my techniques. I want to make sure my clients are 100% satisfied with the service they're being provided when the time comes.

BC: Do you have any beauty advice you can give to women?

AN: My advice to the makeup community would be to just have fun with it. Makeup is all about doing what makes you feel beautiful. Also, try to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. More often than not, you will be surprised at what you can accomplish.

This makeup look is inspired by Alyzé's favorite color which is blue and is also the same color as her birth stone.
